Lacoste launched their AW14 collection last night at their shop on Batemans Street.
Finding fault with the collection is a difficult task as they’ve covered all bases. There's a 'Vans' shoe, a 'Converse' high top, a 'Nike' luxe running shoe, an 'Isabel Marant' wedge, a loafer, a boat shoe, the list goes on. Alarm bells should start ringing but they've created these homages while staying true to the ethos of the brand and it's heritage. Some of the styles might unsubtly nod to outside inspiration but they're still recognisably Lacoste. There’s consistency across all designs, too, in that they’re refined, practical and unobtrusive. The subtle croc effect on the court shoes, detailed weaves, high shine PVC and classic prints give the range sophistication without elevating its components to pompous status. They are still just trainers. Well, most of them.
Consider them a replacement for New Balances, Nike Free Runs and Stan Smiths. For the latter - despite only just being relaunched - the ennui has already set in. Like those mentioned, you'll probably be sick to the back teeth of them within a year but for now they're a welcome alternative
